Oil and Gas

Accidental loss of containment incidents can have disastrous implications to oil and gas companies in terms of life safety, environmental impact, business continuity and business reputation. Our industrial fire and risk engineers have assisted numerous oil and gas companies, including various supermajors, managing such risks across the various stages of their project lifecycle. This includes:

Undertaking quantitative risk analysis (QRA) as part of Environmental Impact Statements in the development approval stages
Leading major pipeline Safety Management and Safety Case Studies against the regulatory requirements
Facilitating process hazard analysis studies including HAZID, HAZOP, CHAZOP and FMEA
Assisting operators with the development of comprehensive Emergency Management Frameworks
Leading risk based asset integrity management studies (including RAM)
Undertaking detailed Fire Risk Assessments
Implementation of robust Process Safety Management programs.

RiskEng have developed unique approaches in relation to explosive gas atmosphere Hazardous Area Classification (HAC). These approaches are ‘performance based’ and add massive value as well as reducing costs to projects compared with some of the more traditional and esoteric prescriptive approaches. In many cases, the outcome of HAC involves both prescriptive assessments using Standards and Codes of Practice, as well as alternative methods using a ‘risk-based’ approach using numerical modelling.

RiskEng is a competent and cost-competitive consultant in the field of HAC, hazardous area Verification Dossiers, ‘Ex rated’ equipment installation design and the facilitation of ‘IECEx certification’ of electrical equipment for use in hazardous areas.

Our capability in Industrial Fire and Risk Engineering within the oil and gas industry also covers ‘special hazards’ fire detection, suppression and extinguishment systems, passive fire protection and evacuation and emergency planning. RiskEng engineers have an extensive background in current and emerging industrial fire safety systems technology, including Video Based Fire Detection (VBFD), Infra Red Detection and Optical Fibre Linear Heat Detection. Our engineers have also developed effective Bushfire Management Plans (BMP) for a major CSG operator in Australia across their entire stream of operations.
