Mining

Our capability within the minerals industry covers many areas of engineered safety. Some of its capabilities include auditing, modification and design of storage facilities for hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods in both surface and underground mining.

Additionally, our engineers are well experienced in fuel farm design and underground fuel pod and refuelling systems design. We have provided AS1940 assessments addressing hydrocarbon release risk analysis and associated reports for the purpose of environmental compliance in relation to potential dangerous goods and hazardous chemicals loss of containment. We are accredited and experienced in providing Hazardous Area Classifications (HAC), Hazardous Area Installation Design and Hazardous Area Installation Auditing. Our engineers are registered by Queensland Government as Hazardous Area Installation Auditors and are full Members of the Australasian Institute of Dangerous Goods Consultants (AIDGC).

Our Fire and Risk Engineering capability includes auditing, modification and design of fire protection and fire detection systems for both underground and surface facilities and also for large heavy off-road vehicles. We are specialists in underground mine Video Based Fire Detection (VBFD), which is an emerging form of fire detection for fixed plant and is mainly associated with the extremely early detection of fires relating to conveyors and refuelling facilities. RiskEng are experienced in developing fire risk assessment reports on the miner’s behalf to address insurance reports and investigations. We are also able to develop mine site Bushfire Management Plans (BMPs).

A further service offered is qualified and experienced risk facilitation, often involving accredited HAZOP, RAMBO, Bowtie (including RiskGate), CHAIR, HAZID, CHAZOP studies.
